Rwanda Experience  Photo Holiday - 'Tugunde Rwanda'

 'share and care'    'non-photographers'

Tugunde means 'Let's go'. Our Tugunde Rwanda Experience is a meaningful holiday that will give you an insight into the culture, history and life of this stunningly beautiful country, known as the 'land of a thousand hills'.

Mention 'Rwanda' and inevitably the 1994 genocide comes to mind.  Today, life couldn't be more different. Rwanda's focus is on 'the future'; people are working hard to rebuild their lives and develop this small, landlocked nation.

Tugende Rwanda Experience Holiday combines visiting sustainable social projects with special interest activities and offers a variety of photographic opportunities. Although this holiday is not aimed purely at photographers -non photographers are very welcome to join us on this holiday experience where you will learn about traditional life and the everyday challenges people face. We travel through majestic landscapes, rolling hills, sparkling lakes, small farms, tea and coffee plantations, busy towns and villages. This is a 'share and care' holiday where the projects benefit directly from our visit.

We first stay in the Capital Kigali and enjoy an introduction to this historic City. A visit to the Rwandan Millennium Village provides first hand experience of a poverty reduction initiative. We explore some of the different regions  with their contrasting landscapes, visit national parks and different community and educational projects.  A stay in a guesthouse that supports a 'Home for Children' is a rewarding experience, and the children delight in showing us their town. We tour  a coffee plantation to learn about the history of coffee in Rwanda,  learn about traditional dance and see the work of talented street children . Gail has guidelines for taking photographs in Rwanda which are shared with you at the beginning of your holiday.

Day 15 Return to UK

Need to know. What to think about when planning a holiday to Rwanda - British nationals don't need a visa for a short holiday, but allow time for the vaccinations that are required, and malaria tablets are a necessity.  Please check with your Doctor and please buy your malaria tablets from a reputable source, preferably your Doctor.  There is lots of info on the Fit for Travel Scotland NHS website  and the FCO website.  We have a comprehensive list of things we suggest you take and are on hand to answer any questions/share our own experience.   Please note that you are not allowed to take plastic bags into Rwanda, and any that you are using will be taken from you on arrival at Kigali Airport. We suggest cloth bags, drysacs or waterproof bags. You'll need to be fit and take good walking boots with ankle support for the gorilla trekking. Rwanda holidays are based on the Brussels  Airlines flight schedule which operates from East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and London Heathrow via Brussels.  There are flights on other airlines including Kenya Airways, which often involve a lengthy stopover in Nairobi. We can quote for additional accommodation either end of your holiday to fit with different flight schedules - please request.
